Unit 14 Proposal

Our product is going to be an extract from a radio show that is going to be able to be broadcasted online. The program will be centred around the idea of the Doncaster Aircraft Museum, it will be a semi-formal/casual discussion on the museum and what there is there, essentially acting as a promotional piece for the museum to persuade listeners to visit them.

This program will be acting as a local commercial radio broadcast that will be centred around the area of Doncaster, this is on par with thew way TX1 Radio operates as we will be operating as a sister radio station to them instead called TX1 Hits, which will be centres around popular 80’s music. The reason we have chosen this is because it wouldn’t make sense to operate as a larger commercial radio station when we are already a sister to a local commercial, so it would only make sense if TX1 Radio was a national commercial or regional radio station.

The radio show would be broadcasted during the midday, this is fitting for the content as most people would typically visit a museum as a daytime activity, and it matches the style of our presenters and schedule as if we were to be operating as a breakfast show if would be more fitting for us to focus on local news for the area and have a more upbeat presentation style. On the other hand, for an evening show, we would want a more chilled and laid-back vibe to it and less energetic music, this will also be more suited towards an older audience with them being most of the listenership during the evening

The launch date for this project is starting on the 23rd of May 2022 and will run through till the 7th of June 2022, meaning that it is a short-term project. This will be taking into consideration of planning and preparation for the broadcast and the post-production.

The structure will be as follows, it will be comprised of

For this radio show to be successful we need to research what personnel we will need. The first personnel member there we will be is a presenter/presenter, they are responsible for hosting (co-hosting) the show with this including playing the correct music, reading from a script, or sometimes having a to memorise a script. They also must work closely with the technical and production team to make sure the show is running smoothly. Their salary depends on whether they are working for a company or a freelance presenter. The skills needed for a radio host is effective communication skills, an ability to generate good and original ideas and a broad range of interests, such as an interest in current affairs. The hours of a radio host are overly broad due to them being in the station for more than a recording hour. Another personnel member we will need is a radio producer, they are involved in the broadcast from the start of generating ideas and to managing the audience feedback after the programme has been broadcasted. They are there to make sure the show runs as planned and nothing is interrupted. The salary for a radio producer also depends on where they are working, for example at a local or commercial station the salary is between £13,000 - £16,00 a year, whereas at a station such as the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) you can expect a minimum salary of £15,700 or if the station is within London, then radio producers can expect a minimum salary of £20,000. Radio broadcast assistant provide support in the development support in the development and day-to-day production of local and national radio. The main responsibilities of a radio broadcast assistant are undertaking general research, recording programme costs, archiving past broadcasts.

The target audience of our radio station is mostly based around interests in terms of music and hobbies rather than a particular age range. However, due to the style of the radio station being based around 80’s music, we will be working to create a more casual but lively atmosphere. In terms of age range, we will be targeting our radio show towards 18 – 26-year-olds as they will be more familiar with the music genre however, we will not style it so that it discourages people who like 80’s music but may be ages between 14 and 18 from listening as it wouldn’t be seen as morally correct. In terms of psychographics, our two main audiences will be mainstreamers and investigators. Mainstreamers are people who usually follow trends and make up most of the audience which will generate us the most revenue. However, explorers being the kinds of people who like to learn and discover things, they will be interested in the discussion of the Aircraft Museum so may wish to visit the museum to find out more and see the exhibits for themselves.
