LO1 Task 3

The Radio programme I will be talking about is BBC radio 1's breakfast show, this is a breakfast show that is broadcasted across the UK on BBC radio 1, the show usually starts at 7:00am and usually ends around 10:30am. It is also hosted by Greg James the 20th of August 2018 as the shows 16th presenter. The show ran six days a week until February 1968 then five days a week until June 2018 when the Friday show was dropped and incorporated into the stations weekend schedule hosted by hosts Matt Edmondson and Molly King In January 2021 and then the show returned to broadcasting five days per week again. BBC Radio 1 Breakfast show is produced by the British Broadcasting Corporation or the BBC.

The Show is very structured all the way through from start to end. At the start of this show the face BBC intro plays and in the back ground a very up beat and happy song plays to get everyone in the right mood instead of being moody in the morning, straight after this Greg James welcomes everyone to the show loudly. They then talk about what's happened around the past few days and talk about what's going to be going on in today's show. The type of content on the programme is very positive and includes things such as top 40 songs and they are mostly pop and upbeat songs and very up beat conversations, because the presenters understand that the people that are listening to the show are out likely on their way to work and want to put themselves in a good mood.

Also at Quarter past 20 on weekdays Greg James likes to host quizzes about different types of topics such as different types of tv shows or events that were going on the previous day, such as love island, and this is a good way to get the listeners engaged more with the radio station and make them feel more at home and welcome.

As well as quizzes every half an hour on the breakfast show there is a news update about what is currently happening in the UK, to make the listeners more engaged in the news they go from listening to the very energetic voice of Greg James to a more monotone an low voice talking about the news to make the matter more serious.

And finally the way the show ends is that they finish off with another popular top 40 song and as it fades away the audience can hear Greg James in the back teasing what's coming up on tomorrows show.

Like another Uk radio programme, the BBC radio 1 breakfast show have to conform to the OfCOM broadcast codes, OfCOM is the main regulatory body for broadcasting, telecommunications and postal industries within the UK, they are the main regulator for radio broadcasting companies and are known for monitoring the listenership of radio stations and shows, and they monitor what is allowed and isn't allowed to be said on a radio broadcast. The breakfast show has to make sure that they for example get things on there half an hour news breaks right and make sure they did not offend anyone. Also things such as the quizzes they have to make sure they do not ask any inappropriate or personnel questions.
